GOLF LIFESTYLE
ON MAUI
From relaxed public play and local municipal golf to private clubs, resort courses, ocean-view fairways, and ultra-exclusive residential golf communities, Maui offers a wide range of golf lifestyles depending on where and how you want to live.
What Golf Living On Maui Really Means
The Maui golf lifestyle is not one single thing. It varies dramatically depending on where you choose to live, how often you play, and what kind of community you want surrounding you.
It can mean playing Waiehu at sunrise with locals, practicing after work at Maui Nui in Kihei, or living near Wailea’s Gold, Emerald, and Blue courses. It could be joining a private club like King Kamehameha or Maui Country Club, experiencing resort golf at Kapalua or Kaanapali, or enjoying ultra-private residential club living at Makena Golf & Beach Club.
"Retiring near golf, beaches, restaurants, and wellness amenities—it's about combining golf with ocean, family, and community."
Whether you're looking for a casual everyday round or a prestigious private club experience, Maui offers a golf lifestyle that fits your vision.

Best Maui Communities for Golfers
Wailea
The pinnacle of resort golf living. Access to three championship courses, world-class dining, and swimmable beaches.
Real Estate Angle: Many condos and homes offer direct golf course frontage or sweeping ocean views over the fairways.
Buyer Considerations: High HOA fees, strong visitor presence, and premium pricing.
Kapalua
A quieter, greener, and cooler luxury resort environment with access to two iconic courses and dramatic ocean cliffs.
Real Estate Angle: Luxury estates and high-end condos, often with sweeping views of the Plantation or Bay courses.
Buyer Considerations: More wind and rain than South Maui, which keeps it lush and green.
Makena
Ultra-exclusive, private, and deeply connected to Maui's natural coastline, anchored by the Makena Golf & Beach Club.
Real Estate Angle: Limited inventory, high-end custom homes, and private club residences.
Buyer Considerations: Extreme privacy, fewer immediate commercial conveniences.
Kaanapali
Maui's original master-planned resort area featuring a lively boardwalk, massive beach, and walkable resort golf.
Real Estate Angle: Many golf-front condos and hillside homes in Kaanapali Hillside or Golf Estates.
Buyer Considerations: Very active visitor corridor with significant foot traffic.
Pukalani & Upcountry
Cooler temperatures, larger lots, and a relaxed community feel centered around Pukalani Country Club.
Real Estate Angle: More affordable single-family homes compared to resort areas, often with bi-coastal views.
Buyer Considerations: Further from the beach, cooler weather, and a more rural lifestyle.

What People Get Wrong About Golf Living
The Most Expensive Is Not Always The Best Fit
An ultra-private club might seem like the dream, but if you prefer a casual, social, drop-in culture, a local public course or a different private club might actually make you happier.
Resort Golf vs. Private Club
Resort courses are beautiful but cater heavily to visitors. Private clubs (like King Kamehameha or Maui Country Club) offer a consistent community of residents, dining, and social events without the resort traffic.
Public Golf Is Meaningful
Waiehu Municipal and Pukalani are beloved by locals. The golf lifestyle on Maui doesn't require a $100k+ initiation fee; public golf here has a rich, deeply rooted local culture.
A Golf View Isn't A Golf Lifestyle
You can have a beautiful view of the fairway but no easy access to play it. Conversely, you can live 10 minutes away from the course but play three times a week. Decide which matters more.
A Day In The Life
Morning Round & Beach Afternoon
Tee off early at Wailea Gold before the trade winds pick up. After your round, grab lunch in Kihei, then spend the afternoon relaxing at Keawakapu Beach before a sunset dinner on your lanai.
Practice, Play & Socialize
Head to King Kamehameha Golf Club or Maui Country Club for a morning practice session followed by 18 holes. Enjoy lunch at the clubhouse with friends, then hit the fitness center or play pickleball.
Ocean Views & Resort Dining
Play the spectacular Kapalua Plantation course. Afterward, enjoy an ocean-view lunch, walk the Kapalua Coastal Trail, and finish the day with sunset cocktails at a nearby resort.
